Whether you are an amateur golfer or a seasoned player, sometimes you just need to know some drills. When the going gets tough, such drills come in handy to get you back in your best form. Try these drills which can be used by golfers of all handicaps to expand their comfort zone.

  1. Rehearse the full swing
  2. Do not behave like a brainless player when you are taking a full swing. You can rather take one mindful, deliberate practice swing prior to each shot and mimic the technique or feel you were working that day. Take an instance of the same, if you had been practicing upright backswing, you can make a deliberate rehearsal which uses your new key of swing, and then do it again when you hit the shot. It will help you strengthen the motor skill that you want to learn. This will also make you more focused on the crucial procedure of your swing, and not only the eminence of your contact.

  3. Make dead aim your game
  4. When you are on the tee of practice, try to imagine a course which you are well acquainted with and play the complete set of nine or eighteen holes, excluding putts. While visualizing, if the initial hole requires you to play with a driver, 6iron, wedge successively; use them in succession. Select a target for every shot. Do not forget to go through your pre-shot routine. Using this drill, you will be able to hit shots with your clubs in random sequence, just like you would do when you are on the course. It also helps you to visualize better. Make this drill your game. Give scores to yourself. And beat the earlier scores by minimum one point.

  5. Use half wedges
  6. Few golfers, who play on weekends, practice with wedges not as much of full distances. However, they have to confront those shots every time on course. You can pick three discomfited distances, say, 35, 50, 75 yards. Hit at least ten balls at each of these targets. Mark one point for every ball which lands within the acceptable limits, may be 20-30 feet. Beat these targets the next day.

  7. Get somber from sand
  8. Rather than randomly hitting sand shots from your practice bunker, allow a sharp goal prickle your preparation. Select a demanding radius around the hole, say 20-50 feet. It all depends on your talent and skills. Take five balls and try to hit all five shots in the limits of your chosen radius. Mark for yourself two points when you have hole-outs and one point when you have a shot inside the radius. Mark zero point for the remaining shots. You are a winner when you score five points with just five swings! Now contract the radius, and select a new distance to begin all over.
